THE PROGRAM

With downsizing and consolidations, supervisors and managers have more and more demands on their time leaving even less time to consider the employment law aspects of the many workplace issues. Employees they supervise and manage are more sophisticated and knowledgeable about their rights. And, everyone knows - or can reach - a lawyer who will sue the company. Under some recent statutory interpretations, even supervisors can be sued.

Now, more than ever, Michigan-based supervisors and managers need practical, bottom-line guidance to meet the increasing challenges they face. This class provides the basic and practical information supervisors and managers need to know to survive the alphabet soup of employment laws. Get information supervisors and managers need to know under:

  • Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  • Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
  • Title VII Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
  • Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act (ELCRA)
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Payment of Wages and Fringe Benefi ts Act (PWFBA)
  • Persons With Disabilities Civil Rights Act (PWDCRA)
  • Bullard-Plawecki Employee Right To Know Act
  • National Labor Relations Act (NLRB)
  • Whistleblower Act
  • Workers’ Compensation Act (WCA)
  • and more.

Issues to be addressed:

  • Why are Unions praying for a Democratic President?
  • How do the new changes to the disability law affect you?
  • What are the obligations if an employee doesn’t specifically ask for an FMLA leave?
  • What medical information can be requested from an employee?
  • Can the employee who fails to return from an FMLA leave be terminated?
  • Does an employee have to be paid overtime if it is worked, but not approved?
  • If an employee is on a break, can he be directed to work without extra pay?
  • Does an employee have a right to her personnel file?
  • Does the employer have to provide a reference for a former employee?
  • What steps to take when an employee claims harassment?
